About me

Hi, I'm Marco and I take things apart to see how they work

Marco Lorica

$ cat storia.txt

First I took things apart, then I started building them

As a kid I wanted to understand how phones worked: what was inside, why they turned on, how they talked to each other. Then came the first smartphones, then computers

At some point understanding how things worked wasn't enough: I wanted to make them work myself. Then programming came along, and I haven't stopped since

  1. phones
  2. the first smartphones
  3. computers
  4. code

$ ls ~/interests

What lights me up

In and out of work: the things I always come back to, even when nobody asks me to

~/computing

Computing

My first love, and also my job. I like the whole journey: from the circuit to the server, all the way to the interface people use

  • PHP
  • Linux
  • JavaScript
  • Servers

~/videogames

Videogames

GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077: I've spent more hours on them than I'd admit. And when I'm not playing, I develop games

  • Minecraft
  • Black Ops III
  • Mortal Kombat

~/cats/perseo

Perseo

My black cat, the colleague who never asks for a meeting and, with those eyes, follows you everywhere

  • black cat
  • head of the house

~/electronics

Electronics & robotics

Arduino, Raspberry Pi, sensors and motors: when code leaves the screen and moves something in the real world, that's the best part for me

  • Arduino
  • Raspberry Pi
  • Sensors
  • Robotics

~/art

Art

Colours, shapes, composition. Looking at art reminds me that a web page, before it's code, is an image to compose

  • Colour
  • Shapes
  • Design

~/music

Music

There's almost always something playing: the right music sets the pace even on the longest coding days

  • Listening
  • Rhythm
  • Background
